Deterministic migration: one page for the audit committee
A one-page summary for audit committee members. It explains what the migration method can prove, what evidence the committee will see, and what it does not prove.
The point
What the committee needs to know
The warehouse logic that produces the company’s reported numbers is being moved to a new platform. The method is chosen so that each moved object can be shown to give the same output as the original, on the same inputs, before it goes live.
Deterministic
What “deterministic” means
The conversion uses fixed, versioned rules. Converting the same object twice gives the same output, so the result can be tested, reviewed and repeated. Where a rule does not apply, a model proposes a fix and a named engineer approves it; the approval is logged.
Evidence
The evidence for each object
| Question | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Does it give the same numbers? | A reconciliation report: schema, row counts, column totals and sampled rows, original against converted, on one frozen input |
| Is every change explained? | A cause and fix for every difference, and the engineer-approval log for every change a rule did not make |
| Was anything accepted with a difference? | A “review” result, with the difference, the agreed tolerance and the business owner’s sign-off |
| Did data leave the company? | A deployment diagram; the software runs inside the company’s environment |
Who signs
Who signs what
- The business owner of each domain signs the tolerances before the run and the results after it.
- A named engineer approves every change a rule did not make.
- The sponsor decides go-live, domain by domain.
Limits
What it does not prove
It proves the converted logic matches the original on the tested inputs. It does not prove the original was correct. Known defects are carried over, then fixed as separate, logged changes after equivalence is shown.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does an audit committee need to see before a warehouse migration goes live?
Evidence per object that the converted logic gives the same output as the original on the same inputs, a cause and fix for every difference, the approval log for changes no rule made, and the business owner’s sign-off for each domain.
Does deterministic conversion mean no AI is used?
Almost. Fixed rules convert about 95% of objects with no model. The rest get a model’s proposal, approved by a named engineer, and the approval is logged.
