Teradata to Databricks
Teradata to Databricks migration
The short answer
Novuz converts Teradata SQL, BTEQ scripts, macros and stored procedures into Databricks SQL and PySpark with fixed rules. Every object ships with a reconciliation report, and the software runs inside your own cloud account.
Risks
What breaks in a Teradata migration
These are the five problems we see most often in Teradata estates.
- BTEQ scripts mix SQL with control logic such as .IF, .GOTO and error codes, and that flow is easy to lose.
- Teradata-specific SQL, such as QUALIFY and SET tables, behaves differently on Databricks. So do implicit casts and case-insensitive comparisons.
- Macros and stored procedures depend on volatile and global temporary tables that need a new pattern.
- FastLoad, MultiLoad and TPT jobs carry load logic and error handling outside the SQL.
- Scheduler dependencies in tools such as Control-M or cron are often undocumented and break silently.
Coverage
What Novuz converts
Final coverage is confirmed during the assessment.
| Teradata object | Databricks target |
|---|---|
| Tables (SET, MULTISET) | Delta tables with deduplication logic where needed |
| Views | Databricks SQL views |
| Macros | SQL functions or parameterized notebooks |
| Stored procedures | Databricks SQL procedures or PySpark |
| BTEQ scripts | Notebooks with control flow preserved |
| Volatile / global temporary tables | Temporary views or session tables |
| FastLoad / MultiLoad / TPT | Auto Loader or COPY INTO jobs |
| Scheduled jobs | Databricks Workflows with original dependencies |
| Data | Bulk and incremental data migration |
Worked example
What a typical estate looks like
An illustrative Teradata estate at a mid-size insurer. These figures are an example, not a customer result.
- 3,500 BTEQ scripts, of which 900 use control flow commands
- 600 macros and 400 stored procedures
- 9,000 tables and 2,000 views across 40 databases
- 120 TB of data
- Complexity split: 55% low, 32% medium, 13% high
- Assessment output: a fixed price for the full estate and a recommended first domain of about 1,500 objects
Proof
Delivered on Databricks
Delivered estates of 1,000 to 1,600 objects typically go from code received to reconciled output in 4 to 8 weeks, with every object reconciled.¹ Novuz is a Databricks validated technology partner, with three Databricks-commissioned enterprise migrations delivered. The same engine and validation process applies to Teradata.

Pricing for Teradata to Databricks
Pricing follows object count and complexity, not hours. Many teams time the assessment to land well before their Teradata renewal date.
Estate assessment
$3,000. Three business days. Credited in full.2
First Domain
$25,000 to $40,000. 5 to 6 weeks on one domain of up to 1,500 components. Equivalence guarantee in writing.2
Full estate
Fixed from the assessment. Typically $40,000 to $200,000 for 1,500 to 10,000 objects, or an enterprise license for larger estates.2
Honest fit
Who should not choose Novuz
Novuz is not the right choice for estates under about 300 objects; for Oracle-only or mainframe estates; for teams with no target and no date inside 18 months; for buyers who want staff augmentation rather than software; or for organizations that cannot run software inside their environment or share code for an assessment.
